The conference will take place on November 21-25, 2007 in La Cristalera, the residence of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Miraflores de la Sierra (Madrid).
Miraflores de la Sierra is located 50 km north of Madrid, 1150 metres above sea-level, by the Sistema Central (a mountain range in the center of the Iberian Peninsula).
For those who can read Spanish, the web page of La Cristalera is a very good place to know everything about the residence and the town of Miraflores de la Sierra.
Unfortunately for those who can not read Spanish, those pages are not available in any other language. However, there are plenty of photographs, so you can browse through them and get an idea of the residence and the neighbourhoods.
You can also have a look at the weather forecast for Miraflores de la Sierra, by the Spanish National Institute of Meteorology. There you can see from top to bottom (for those who do not understand Spanish), cloud prediction, probability of rain or snow, highest and lowest temperature and wind prediction. Weather forecast is usually reliable for the next five days. However, you should know that in autumn and in the mountains, the weather is particularly unstable. By the time of the conference, the sun rises in Miraflores some minutes after 8 AM and sets some minutes before 6 PM.
The conference room is equipped with a beamer conected to a computer and an overhead projector. There is also a white plastic blackboard for marking pens (included).
The computer is prepared for presentations with a pdf file, so you can take it in your USB stick. But we can not guarantee that it will work properly with other formats. If you want to prepare your talk in a format other than pdf, we strongly recommend you to take your own computer.
There is a wifi net in the building, and two computers where you can read you e-mail.
At the arrival, each participant will be given a black and white copy of the conference book. If you want a full color copy of the maps, please take it with you.
If you arrive at Madrid by plane, you can take the underground (Metro) to Plaza de Castilla and then an inter-city bus to Miraflores de la Sierra. Two hours is a reasonable time to go from Barajas airport to Miraflores de la Sierra.
From the airport to Madrid. At Barajas airport take the Metro (you should easily find the way to the Metro, for it is well indicated). The metro ticket to and from the airport costs 2 euros. The line to and from the airport is line 8. You should take the line in direction Nuevos Ministerios and get off at Colombia station (fourth or sixth stop, depending on which airport terminal you arrive at). Then you must take line 9 in direction Herrera Oria and get off at Plaza de Castilla station (third stop). You must now go to the surface.
From Madrid to Miraflores. Back on the surface, if you can not see two inclined towers you are lost. So, assume you see the towers. The bus to Miraflores stops just there. It is bus number 725, green coloured (this is the common colour of inter-city buses in the province of Madrid). One bus leaves every 30 minutes, at 15 minutes past hours and 15 minutes to hours. The bus takes about one hour to get to Miraflores and the ticket costs 3,15 euros. There are three stops at the town; the second one seems to be the most convenient. It is in the center of the town, in front of a DIA supermarket.
After getting off the bus, there is about one or two kilometers walk to the residence.
Here you have a scheme of the Metro, a photograph of the inclined towers at Plaza de Castilla and a map of Miraflores. You can get a free full color map of the Metro in every station.
